Stop the spiral and get the thing done

I have a page of blog posts on my site so people can get to know who I am, learn how I see things, and how I coach with my peeps.

And I haven’t updated the page since August of 2023, LOL!

I don’t think about it and when someone mentions a blog post they read on my site I think to myself, “Oh yeah, I have that and I really should update it regularly, damn it!”

And then I forget about it until that scenario happens next time and I say that again to myself and feel bad that I haven’t done anything about it.

Queue the shame and blame spiral.

Don’t do something, forget about it, get reminded, feel bad I forgot and didn’t do it, rinse and repeat.

The last time it happened a few weeks ago, I chose to do something different.

Because my brain also loves to make new things seem like a *huge* task that will be *so* difficult and take *so* much time; I said to myself, “Let’s skip the shame and blame spiral and figure out how to make this easier.”

The difference was twofold this time.

I consciously decided not to beat myself up *and* I asked my brain helpful questions.

“How can I make this easier and what can I tie it to that I’m already doing?”

Most days and at least weekly, I write an email to send to my peeps, so I thought, “How about you add that email content to your blog post page?”

Brilliant Jenn!

Problem solved in less than 60 seconds, boom shakalaka!

I chose to skip the unhelpful and mean part of shaming and blaming myself, and got to work taking a kitten step to move in the direction I wanted to go; adding more blog posts to my site.

It took me a minute to remember how to add the article and pic, but I got through the learning curve and discomfort quickly, and went from not adding anything in almost 2 years to adding 1-5 articles a week!

Take aways:

* Shaming and blaming don’t work or we would’ve had different results years ago.

* Consciously choose to skip shame and blame and put your brain to good use asking a helpful question like, how can I make it easier by tying it to something I’m already doing?

* Try it and see how it goes. Did you get the results you wanted? Yes, awesome! Not so much, make a tweak and try again.

Don’t create a sh*t sandwich of shame and blame. Take a machete to them because they’re not required!

What small thing do you want to *add* to your life and how can you tie it to something you’re already doing? (because adding is loads easier than eliminating)

You go this, Sunshine and I’ve always got your back!

(now I’m going to go add this to my blog post page ;) )
